Cayenne comes from the Greek word to bite

CayennePepperWaterLemonMapleSyrup is the drink that bites back!

Cayenne is mostly known as a red hot chili pepper used to flavor dishes, but also has medicinal purposes and has been used as such by natives of tropical areas in North and South America, Africa and India for thousands of years.

The Native American Navajo tribes, for instance, used cayenne for weaning children, while Native American Cherokee tribes used cayenne for its stimulating qualities.

In modern times, the Dispensary of the United States of America noted how cayenne is a strong local stimulant that leaves a sense of heat in the belly when swallowed, and "a general glow over the body without narcotic effect."

Cayenne boosts the metabolism and is a natural appetite suppressant. The Vitamin A in cayenne is vital for normal vision, growth, cellular activity, reproduction and healthy immunity. The high Vitamin A content is what makes cayenne red.

Cayenne has proven effective for fighting off diseases, and is great for equalizing blood circulation.

Cayenne is also called Capsicum. The most important and prominent compound in cayenne is Capsaicin, the "hot" ingredient in cayenne which stimulates saliva and digestion, and boosts metabolism . Some capsaicin rub-on cream has proven effective in relieving pain from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

One teaspoon of cayenne pepper contains 15% of your recommended Daily Value (DV) of Vitamin A, and around 2%DV each of Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, manganese, and dietary fiber.

One of the best things about cayenne pepper is the jolt of "get-up-and-go" I feel after a gulp of Beyoncé's Beverage. I don't drink it every day -- 4 or 5 days a week, normally -- as I'm not sure if cayenne should be done daily, no matter how great it is (too much not good?)

Best of all -- it tastes great! You don't have to feel like you're sacrificing taste for health!
